What to expect
When you arrange an appointment to see me, you can expect to receive a confidential professional service which is also warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental. My philosophy is to provide a person-centred, normalising approach to your difficulties which breaks the stigma and taboo around mental health issues.
The process is as follows:
• Assessment of your emotional and mental health difficulties. This typically takes between one and two sessions. Your goals and desired outcomes from therapy will also be discussed.
• A formulation of your difficulties is developed. This is a shared framework for understanding the onset, progression, and maintenance of your difficulties. It is not a diagnosis, may change during the course of therapy, and guides the types of therapy you will be offered.
• Therapy, during which we work together to achieve your goals by making personal changes as well as building resilience, coping and self-awareness. The number of therapy sessions you will need will depend on the complexity of your difficulties. The duration of each session is 50 to 60 minutes.
• Closure and/or acceptance, which looks at what you have gained from therapy, including the positive changes you have made and how these have helped your self-confidence, quality of life and relationships.
